Ukraine synchronises new sanctions with EU amid Russian strikes, Zelenskyy says

02 February 2026 17:10

Ukraine is continuing to synchronise its sanctions policy with the European Union, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, announcing new restrictive measures targeting Russia.

Zelenskyy said he had signed a decree imposing sanctions on companies that service Russia’s tanker fleet and transport oil already under international restrictions. The new measures also target Kremlin propagandists and individuals involved in cyberattacks against Ukraine and its partners. According to the president, Ukraine is responding to every attempt by the Russian regime to destabilise the country, Caliber.Az reports.

He noted that the European Union last week synchronised Ukrainian sanctions within its jurisdiction against six Russian propagandists. Work is also ongoing on the EU’s 20th sanctions package, which Kyiv expects to be adopted by the end of February. Zelenskyy said many Ukrainian proposals have already been taken into account and thanked partners for their support.

Separately, Zelenskyy reported on the state of Ukraine’s energy system following a coordination call on the situation in the country. He said Ukrainian energy workers and repair crews have fully restored the power system to its condition prior to a technical failure that occurred on January 31, and that the system is currently operating stably.

At the same time, he warned that challenges remain serious due to extremely cold weather and the ongoing impact of Russian attacks. Over the past 24 hours, Russian forces carried out new strikes on energy facilities in frontline and border communities. However, Zelenskyy said there were no targeted missile or Shahed drone attacks on major energy infrastructure during that period.

“At the same time, there were no targeted strikes by Russian missiles or ‘shaheds’ against energy infrastructure. As on previous days, the Russian army remains focused on terror against our logistics – primarily railway infrastructure,” he wrote on X.

He added that, as in recent days, Russian forces continue to focus on attacks aimed at disrupting Ukraine’s logistics, primarily targeting railway infrastructure.
