Ukrainian drones reach deep into Russia, strike Gazprom plant PHOTO
Ukrainian drones reportedly struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat petrochemical plant in Bashkortostan on September 18, nearly 1,500 kilometres from the Russia–Ukraine border.
According to Telegram channel Exilenova+, the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were tracked throughout the night and successfully hit their target in the morning hours. Preliminary reports suggest that the strike may have damaged the ELOU-AVT-4 processing unit at the plant.
Radiy Khabirov, head of Bashkortostan, confirmed the incident on his Telegram channel, describing it as a “terrorist attack.” He added that two airplane-type drones targeted the facility, but no casualties were reported. Active and passive defence systems were deployed, and plant security opened fire to neutralise the threat.
“The extent of the damage is being assessed. Firefighting and emergency services are on site,” Khabirov stated.
