Ukrainian General Staff announces supply of Turkish self-propelled guns
The Ukrainian Armed Forces will soon receive modern Turkish 155 mm Firtina T-155 self-propelled artillery guns.
Brigadier-General Oleksiy Gromov, deputy head of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, made the announcement in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to him, so far the Ukrainian side has received many foreign-made artillery weapons, but these systems have not yet been used by the AFU.
This is the first public statement about deliveries of Turkish 155 mm artillery to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Previously, Ankara supplied only 155 mm ammunition to Ukraine, but not SPG.
The Firtina T-155 SPG is an adapted Turkish version of the famous South Korean K9 Thunder howitzer. It is equipped with an upgraded turret, chassis, and fire control system. It is the longest-range artillery piece in the Turkish Army. It has a range of 18 to 40 km depending on the projectile. At the same time, it has a maximum rate of fire of 6 rounds per minute for 3 minutes, and in "barrage of fire" mode 3 rounds for 15 seconds.
The announcement about the supply of the Turkish SPG was made against the background of Russia's announcement about its withdrawal from the Black Sea grain deal.
