Ukrainian lawmaker warns of risk to statehood if war drags on
Ukrainian Member of Parliament Fedir Venislavskyi has warned that Ukraine risks losing its statehood if the war with Russia is not brought to an end in the near future.
Speaking publicly, Venislavskyi said the country cannot continue fighting in its current format and argued that the war must be concluded, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He cautioned against repeating what he described as historical mistakes made during the era of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, when maximalist ambitions, in his view, contributed to the loss of statehood.
Venislavskyi stressed that Ukraine’s primary objective should be to preserve its independence and sovereignty. He said the country should aim to secure European Union membership and obtain firm security guarantees that would prevent Russian President Vladimir Putin from launching another attack in the future.
