Ukrainian Navy claims Russian attack on Turkish cargo ship PHOTO
Russia attacked a cargo ship carrying freight from Ukraine’s Odesa region, causing a fire on board, according to the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Russia carried out a deliberate strike against a Turkish vessel. During the night, the enemy used UAVs to attack the dry cargo ship ANT, sailing under the flag of Vanuatu and owned by a Turkish company, as it travelled from one of the ports of the Odesa region to Türkiye with cargo on board. As a result of the strike on the vessel’s superstructure, a fire broke out.
Thanks to the coordinated and professional actions of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service and the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the fire was quickly localised. Two injured crew members were promptly evacuated by Ukrainian Navy boats and taken to a medical facility. Russia continues to deliberately create threats to international maritime transport by attacking civilian infrastructure and commercial vessels,” the Ukrainian Navy said in a statement.
On May 28, Reuters reported that drones had attacked three tankers linked to Russian oil in the Black Sea near the Turkish coast.
