Ukrainian troops secure Pokrovsk north, struggle continues in Myrnohrad

Ukrainian forces maintain control over northern Pokrovsk, while conditions in Myrnohrad remain challenging, the 7th Rapid Response Corps announced.

The corps stated that Russian troops have attempted to breach Ukrainian defences in Pokrovsk and have stepped up operations west of the city, but have been repelled by Ukrainian forces, Caliber.Az reports, citing The Kyiv Independent.

In Myrnohrad, the situation “remains difficult,” with units from Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces and Marine Corps deployed to reinforce positions against pressure from the northeast and south.

The 7th Rapid Response Corps also noted that Russian forces conducted “demonstrative propaganda actions” on Myrnohrad’s southern outskirts, targeting a domestic audience rather than carrying any significant tactical impact.

On December 28, both Ukrainian and Russian sources released conflicting claims and videos regarding control of Myrnohrad. Ukrainian forces said they retain key positions, sharing footage of ongoing combat operations, while Russian state media circulated videos showing Russian soldiers raising flags in several damaged neighbourhoods.

Pokrovsk, a strategic city in Donetsk Oblast, has been one of the most contested frontline locations, with Ukrainian troops successfully fending off major Russian assaults for over a year. Myrnohrad lies less than three kilometres from Pokrovsk and serves as a satellite town.
