UN General Assembly backs declaration on two-state solution for Israel, Palestine

The United Nations General Assembly on September 12 overwhelmingly endorsed a declaration calling for “tangible, timebound, and irreversible steps” toward a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, ahead of next week’s gathering of world leaders.

The resolution received strong support, with 142 countries voting in favour, 10 opposing, and 12 abstaining, Caliber.Az writes, citing Reuters. 

Seven-page declaration stems from an international conference on the decades-long conflict, held in July at the UN and co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France. Both the United States and Israel boycotted the event.
