UN mission in southern Lebanon denies Israel’s claims, reaffirms neutrality
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has strongly rejected claims made by Israel, describing them as baseless and unsupported by any evidence.
UNIFIL spokesperson Kandice Ardiel emphasized that the mission remains fully neutral while carrying out its duties in southern Lebanon, Middle East Monitor reports.
“UNIFIL works to support local communities and only shares information when necessary, in full compliance with its mandate,” she said.
Ardiel confirmed that the mission will investigate the recent allegations but noted that its presence on the ground can sometimes upset different parties. “This is part of carrying out its role,” she added, underlining that the mission’s work is guided by complete impartiality.
The spokesperson highlighted that UNIFIL’s operations are focused on implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which forms the principal framework for the mission in southern Lebanon.
Addressing claims that the mission has shared information with other parties, Ardiel stated unequivocally: “These allegations are entirely unfounded. UNIFIL has not shared any such information, and its role is strictly limited to supporting stability and enforcing Resolution 1701.”
