Al Akhbar: Egypt, Gulf nations unveil initiative to contain US-Iran crisis
Egypt and the Gulf states have launched a coordinated diplomatic initiative to prevent further escalation in the Middle East amid renewed US military operations and Iran's retaliatory actions, Lebanon's Al Akhbar newspaper reported, citing diplomatic sources.
According to the report, Cairo and several Gulf countries are drawing up a joint plan aimed at containing the fallout from the latest hostilities and preventing the crisis from spiralling into a full-scale regional conflict.
The sources said the initiative is focused on coordinating political and diplomatic efforts to persuade Washington to avoid any developments that could lead to Israel's direct involvement in the confrontation.
They warned that such a move could open multiple fronts across the region and make the situation increasingly difficult to contain.
The reported initiative also seeks to revive the implementation of the US-Iran memorandum of understanding and restart negotiations between the two sides.
The diplomatic sources described renewed dialogue as the safest and most practical path to preserving regional stability.
