UN official praises Azerbaijan’s exemplary model of multiculturalism

The High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, has lauded Azerbaijan for its outstanding commitment to multiculturalism and interreligious dialogue.

Speaking at a meeting with Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, during the 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions held in Astana, Moratinos highlighted Azerbaijan’s role as a beacon of religious tolerance and cooperation, Caliber.Az reports per local media.

Moratinos emphasized that interreligious forums in Azerbaijan are conducted at an exceptionally high standard, fostering dialogue and mutual respect among diverse communities. He expressed his satisfaction with the robust collaboration between the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Azerbaijani authorities, and the Caucasus Muslims Office, recognizing the latter’s pivotal role as a religious institution in promoting harmony across the region.

In the context of his mandate to combat Islamophobia, Moratinos praised Azerbaijan’s proactive efforts in addressing religious discrimination and intolerance. He proposed the initiation of joint conferences and collaborative projects to further strengthen global efforts against such challenges.

According to Moratinos, Azerbaijan’s model of multiculturalism—characterized by deep interfaith understanding and sustained interreligious tolerance—serves as an invaluable example for the international community.
