UN official praises Azerbaijan’s increasing global role and humanitarian efforts

Azerbaijan continues to expand its humanitarian efforts for global development, including through its support of the UN Development Programme, according to the UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan, Vladanka Andreeva. 

She made these remarks during the event "Identification of High-Level Strategic Priorities" focused on the UN-Azerbaijan Framework Document for 2026-2030, according to Caliber.Az.

Andreeva highlighted Azerbaijan's growing commitment to multilateral cooperation, emphasizing its increasing leadership not only at the national level but also on the global stage. 

"In recent years, we have witnessed Azerbaijan's increased leadership not only at the national level but also at the international level," she said. "As COP29 chair, the country is promoting important initiatives to combat the climate crisis."

The partnership between Azerbaijan and the UN, according to Andreeva, focuses on four key areas: reducing vulnerability and building resilience, developing more effective institutions, protecting the environment and combating climate change, and fostering inclusive development by empowering women and girls.

To recall, at the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024, a significant agreement was reached to enhance climate finance for developing nations. Developed countries committed to increasing annual climate finance contributions from the previous goal of $100 billion to $300 billion by 2035.

Additionally, the conference set a broader target to mobilize $1.3 trillion per year by 2035 from both public and private sources to support climate initiatives in developing countries.
