United Airlines flight makes emergency landing in Japan, two injured
United Airlines (UAL.O) reported on September 12 that two individuals sustained minor injuries after Flight 32, en route from Tokyo to Cebu, Philippines, was forced to make an emergency landing amid concerns of a possible fire in the cargo hold.
The flight, operated by a Boeing (BA.N) 737-800 carrying 135 passengers and seven crew members, was diverted to Kansai International Airport in Osaka shortly after departing from Narita Airport near Tokyo, Reuters reports.
All passengers and crew were safely evacuated using emergency slides, with the two injured individuals promptly transported to a nearby hospital, according to United Airlines.
An initial maintenance inspection revealed no evidence of fire aboard the aircraft.
Efforts by Reuters to reach Kansai Airport, as well as local police, fire departments, and the transport ministry, were unsuccessful outside normal business hours.
