US aerospace company to assist in investigation of plane crash in India
GE Aerospace, a US company that manufactures aircraft engines, has decided to assist in the investigation of the plane crash in India that occurred on June 12.
The aerospace company posted on its X page that it has deployed its emergency team and stands ready to support the investigation, Caliber.Az reports.
The company also expressed its condolences to the families and loved ones of the passengers aboard the crashed aircraft.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Air India Flight AI-171. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families and loved ones of those impacted. We have activated our emergency response team, and we are prepared to support our customer and the investigation,” statement reads.
On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, tragically crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft, carrying 242 individuals—including 169 Indians, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian—plunged into a residential area in Meghani Nagar, Ahmedabad.
The crash occurred approximately five minutes after departure at 13:38 IST (08:08 UTC). The flight crew issued a mayday call to air traffic control before communication was lost.
Initial reports indicate that at least 204 bodies have been recovered from the crash site, including 75 from a medical hostel struck by the aircraft. A 40-year-old British national was rescued from the wreckage and is currently receiving treatment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound sorrow over the incident, directing immediate relief efforts. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and other authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
This incident marks one of the deadliest aviation disasters in India since the 1996 mid-air collision near Charki Dadri, which claimed 349 lives. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, introduced into commercial service in 2011, had not previously experienced a fatal crash.
