The naval movement comes amid heightened regional attention following indirect talks between Iran and the United States held on February 6 in Oman, focused on Tehran’s nuclear programme.
The USS Abraham Lincoln is a key element of what President Donald Trump has described as a “massive Armada” being assembled in the Middle East amid intensifying negotiations with Iran over its nuclear programme and Tehran’s violent suppression of protests.
The carrier arrived in the region earlier this year along with its full strike group, significantly boosting US airpower with additional F-35C and F-18 fighter jets capable of striking targets deep inside Iranian territory.
