US calls for global pressure on Russia at UN meeting

25 February 2026 10:02

US Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Tammy Bruce delivered a statement during a meeting of the United Nations Security Council, urging countries to halt any support for Russia that, she said, contributes to the continuation of the war against Ukraine.

According to Ukrainian media, the diplomat stated that a number of countries are providing assistance to Moscow that enables it to sustain military operations. She specifically mentioned China, North Korea, Iran, and Cuba. In her view, support from third countries remains one of the reasons the conflict continues despite Russia’s significant losses.

Bruce emphasised that US President Donald Trump is seeking a peaceful settlement. She said his actions and public statements demonstrate a determination to achieve an end to hostilities.

The diplomat also focused on China’s role, stating that it remains a key supplier to Russia’s military industry. She argued that if Beijing is genuinely interested in peace, it should stop exporting dual-use goods and abandon purchases of Russian oil.

In addition, Bruce accused North Korea of supplying Russia with ammunition and ballistic missiles, as well as sending military personnel. Iran, she said, has been transferring drones and related production technologies to Moscow. Cuba, according to the diplomat, also began providing Russia with military personnel in 2025 and concluded new defence agreements with Moscow and Minsk.

“The United States calls on all UN Member States to end any and all support that enables the continuation of this deplorable war, which exacts a devastating human toll and threatens peace and security around the world,” she stated.

In conclusion, Bruce stressed that the conflict can only be resolved through diplomacy and urged the parties to continue negotiations, demonstrating flexibility and readiness for compromise in order to save lives.

“We once again call on both sides to continue negotiations and, in a spirit of flexibility, compromise, and responsibility to protect and preserve the lives of their citizens, to bring this barbaric war to an end once and for all,” the deputy permanent representative said.
