US calls for Russia to return to peace talks, reaffirms support for Ukraine
The United States has reiterated its support for Ukraine and called on Russia to return to negotiations and conclude a peace agreement, saying that time is working against Moscow in the ongoing war.
Dan Negrea, Representative of the United States to the United Nations Economic and Social Council, said at the UN session that Washington remains “unwavering in its support for the Ukrainian people” and their right to defend freedom and sovereignty, Caliber.Az reports.
He strongly condemned Russian attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and cultural heritage, including strikes on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
Negrea said the war has continued for too long and must be brought to an end through diplomatic means, citing remarks by the US president emphasizing the urgency of ending the conflict.
He also claimed that Russia is suffering heavy monthly losses, estimating around 40,000 military personnel killed or injured each month, and described Russia’s economy as being in a “very difficult state.” He added that Ukraine continues to develop innovations on the battlefield.
According to the diplomat, Russia’s war against Ukraine has gone on "far too long and must end." And the only response to this entire situation is diplomacy and negotiations, since "nothing else will stop this senseless killing."
