US closes probe into former "border czar" Tom Homan

21 September 2025 11:48

The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice have closed an investigation into former Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director and White House Border Chief Tom Homan, MSNBC reports, citing sources and internal documents.

The case was ended due to a lack of credible evidence of criminal wrongdoing.

The probe began in the summer of 2024 in Texas after a participant in a separate case claimed that Homan allegedly sought payments in exchange for awarding contracts if Donald Trump won the presidential election. The US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas, working with the FBI, requested DOJ involvement in the investigation into the “border chief and former acting ICE director” based on evidence of payments.

According to sources, FBI Director Kesh Patel requested updated information on the matter, after which the investigation was officially closed. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the department’s resources should be focused on real threats rather than unsubstantiated cases. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson described the investigation as “overtly political” and emphasised that it uncovered no evidence of illegal activity.

Homan, now 63, served in the U.S. immigration system for nearly three decades, playing an active role during the administrations of both Barack Obama and Donald Trump.
