US complicates Russia’s evasion of sanctions through Armenian customs
The Armenian government, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, has approved a bill to ratify an agreement between Armenia and the US on "Mutual Assistance of Customs Authorities".
Once the bill is fully ratified and comes into effect, the US authorities will gain full access to monitoring customs flows passing through Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
This move is part of a broader US strategy to enhance oversight of global trade flows and prevent the circumvention of international sanctions, particularly those imposed against Russia. By leveraging Armenia as a strategic point in the region, the US aims to complicate Russia's efforts to bypass Western sanctions. Armenia, a key transit hub in the South Caucasus, becomes a crucial element in the international control network.
