US envoy confident in Trump administration’s vision for Syria, Türkiye
US Ambassador to Türkiye and Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack has assured that US President Donald Trump’s vision of Middle East affairs is “not only hopeful but achievable.
He made the remarks after meeting with President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to discuss the evolving Middle East situation.
“Spent the afternoon at the White House with President Trump and Sec. Rubio discussing Middle East affairs that all relate to Türkiye and Syria. I can assure you the President’s vision with the Secretary’s execution is not only hopeful but achievable.” he wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports.
Barrack’s comments came following an intensive session at the White House focused on regional developments affecting both Türkiye and Syria. As part of his new role, Barrack visited Damascus on May 29 for his first official diplomatic mission, meeting Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani.
During the visit, Barrack revealed that President Trump plans to soon remove Syria from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism, signaling a shift in Washington’s policy aimed at empowering the current Syrian government.
The day prior, Barrack had traveled to Israel to consult with officials on the regional security situation. Israeli sources, quoted by Israel Hayom, described the visit as part of ongoing US-Israel coordination efforts to address what Tel Aviv perceives as escalating threats from Syria under President al-Sharaa’s administration.
