US envoy denies reports of urging Syria to send troops to Lebanon

US Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack has dismissed reports claiming that Washington urged Syria to deploy troops to Lebanon, calling them false and inaccurate.

"Reporting regarding the United States encouraging Syria to send forces into Lebanon is false and inaccurate,” he said in a post on his X account, as per Caliber.Az.

The denial came shortly after a Reuters report on March 17, 2026, claimed that Washington had urged Damascus to consider sending Syrian troops into eastern Lebanon to assist in disarming Hezbollah. According to the report, Syria was reluctant, fearing it could be drawn deeper into the ongoing Middle East conflict and risk inflaming sectarian tensions.
