US, Iran set to resume talks after Rome meeting ends without agreement
The fifth round of negotiations between the US and Iran in Rome ended without reaching an agreement, but both sides agreed to continue discussions.
According to the Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, Iran and the US intend to establish the framework of a new agreement on Tehran’s nuclear program, leaving important details to be discussed later.
Following the fifth round of talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the Iranian side hopes to resolve outstanding disagreements during one or two meetings with US representatives.
“I hope that during one or two meetings, taking into account a better understanding of Iran’s position, we will be able to reach agreements that could allow the negotiations to move forward,” the Mehr news agency quoted the minister as saying.
Meanwhile, Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi stated that the fifth round of talks had made some progress.
“The fifth round of negotiations between the US and Iran concluded today in Rome and led to some progress, but not a final resolution of the issue,” the minister wrote on the social media platform X.
He expressed hope that the remaining issues would be clarified “in the coming days” to reach a “substantial and good-faith agreement.”
