US, Japanese, South Korean ministers to discuss growing threats from North Korea
Tokyo will be the venue for a significant security meeting on July 28, featuring Defence Minister of Japan Minoru Kihara, Defence Minister of South Korea Shin Won-sik and US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin.
The meeting aims to address the growing threats from North Korea and explore strategies for enhanced trilateral cooperation, Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
The agenda will focus on strengthening regional security alliances, assessing current threats, and coordinating responses to North Korean provocations. In addition to the trilateral discussions, the defence ministers will hold individual bilateral meetings to address specific concerns and collaborative efforts.
This gathering follows a previous meeting of the three defence ministers in June at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, where they had outlined plans for joint military exercises and deepened their strategic partnership.
The IISS Shangri-La Dialogue is an annual high-profile defence summit held in Singapore, organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). This event brings together defence ministers, military officials, and security experts from around the world to discuss pressing security issues and strategic challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.
The Dialogue is notable for its focus on regional security and defence strategies, providing a platform for frank discussions on issues such as military cooperation, regional stability, and geopolitical tensions. It has become a key forum for addressing the security dynamics of the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in light of rising concerns about North Korea's military activities, territorial disputes in the South China Sea, and broader regional security trends.
