US not planning war with Iran over crackdown on unrest — House Speaker
The United States does not intend to declare war on Iran over the suppression of unrest in the Islamic Republic, US House Speaker Mike Johnson said.
Speaking in an interview with the British broadcaster BBC, Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, stressed that Washington is not close to such a decision.
“The role of Congress in our constitutional system is to declare war. I don’t think we are anywhere near that,” he said.
President Trump (in his second term) has strongly supported the Iranian people, issuing warnings like "help is on the way," threatening military action if killings continued, and positioning the US as ready to intervene to stop the "slaughter." However, the administration has pulled back from immediate strikes, influenced by diplomatic pressures from Arab states.
