US: Russia still fails to achieve main goals in Ukraine

The Russian troops have failed to achieve strategic goals in the war against Ukraine, because the main cities survived.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan made the remarks at a briefing, Korrespondent.net reports.

"Russia has already significantly failed to achieve its strategic goals in Ukraine. Its strategic goal was to take the capital Kyiv in order to do away with Ukraine as a country, eliminate Ukrainian identity and incorporate Ukraine into Russia. They failed in this," he said.

According to Sullivan, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa and the main cities of Ukraine are holding on. He added that a large part of the country is under Ukrainian control, which is skillfully and courageously defended by the Ukrainian military with the support of the United States and other partners.

"So if you take a step back and look at the trajectory of this conflict, at what Putin intended to do, then [you will see that] he could not do it. He will continue to fail in achieving his ultimate goals because of the courage of the Ukrainian people," he said.

At the same time, Sullivan admitted that the Russian Federation managed to advance kilometre by kilometre in the east, but it came at a high price due to the actions of the Ukrainian military and Western sanctions.

Sullivan also noted that the United States is in almost daily contact with the Ukrainians on the issues of deterring the Russian offensive and the return of temporarily occupied territories.

According to him, Washington's goal is to put Ukraine in the strongest position on the battlefield and at the negotiating table when it comes to diplomacy.
