Russian president's rep to sit down with US envoy for high-level investment talks
CBS journalist Sara Cook has announced that Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), special representative of the Russian president for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, will hold talks with Steve Witkoff, the US president's special envoy.
She noted that a significant meeting will take place at the White House on April 2, Caliber.Az reports.
“Steve Witkoff will meet with senior Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev today at the White House, 2 sources confirm to me and Camilla Schick [Foreign Affairs & State Dept Producer]. The Treasury Dept temporarily lifted sanctions against Dmitriev so State Dept could issue the necessary visa for him to come to the US,” Cook wrote on X.
The discussions will focus on bilateral relations between Russia and the US, with particular attention given to efforts toward resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Dmitriev is expected to visit Washington this week for the talks with Witkoff. If the meeting proceeds, it will mark the first visit by a senior Russian official to Washington since February 2022, a time when diplomatic ties between the two nations were significantly strained due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
