US Secretary of State confirms Trump’s eagerness for talks with Putin
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed that President Donald Trump is eager to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, emphasising that such a meeting is crucial to resolving the ongoing deadlock between the two countries.
Rubio explained that Trump has already expressed his intent to hold direct talks with Putin, stating that the only thing that can resolve this deadlock is a direct conversation between Trump and Putin, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
While the US has already extended an official proposal for the meeting, Rubio noted that the logistics—such as the time, place, and agenda—still need to be finalised. Rubio also emphasised that the US does not wish to engage in endless negotiations that do not yield tangible progress.
The US is waiting for a document from both Ukraine and Russia that demonstrates concessions and a rational approach to the peace process.
Direct talks between Ukraine and Russia were held in Istanbul on May 16, marking the first discussions between the two countries in over three years. However, the talks ended after just two hours when the Russian delegation presented new, unacceptable demands.
