US Senate receives Ukraine Support Act with new Russia sanctions

The US Senate has received the “Ukraine Support Act,” a bill that provides for new sanctions against Russia, according to data published on the US Congress portal.

The legislation was previously passed by the US House of Representatives, where it was approved by 226 lawmakers, while 195 voted against it.

The bill was introduced in early April 2025 by a bipartisan group of senators. It includes provisions for additional sanctions, including secondary measures targeting countries that maintain trade relations with Russia.

Under the proposal, lawmakers outlined tariffs of up to 500% on imports into the United States from countries that continue to purchase Russian oil, gas, uranium and other goods.

The legislation represents a further step by Washington to increase economic pressure on Moscow by targeting not only Russian exports directly but also third-party countries engaged in trade with it.
