US special envoy touches down in Geneva ahead of Russia-Ukraine talks

A plane carrying the US President’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, landed at Geneva Airport, Switzerland, ahead of Russia–Ukraine settlement talks.

The Bombardier Global 7500 business jet touched down at 10:55 Baku time, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are expected to participate in the Geneva talks.

The Russian delegation, led by Presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky, previously flew to Geneva for talks. The nine-hour journey avoided unfriendly countries, with Italy granting airspace access to reach Switzerland.

On February 17–18, Geneva will host trilateral talks on resolving the Ukraine conflict with delegations from Russia, Ukraine, and the US. This is the third round of such meetings in 2026 — the previous two took place in Abu Dhabi on January 23–24 and February 4–5, resulting in an agreement to exchange 314 prisoners.
