US to provide Moldova with 20 HMMWV armoured personnel carriers
The United States will deliver 20 HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) armoured personnel carriers to the National Army of Moldova as part of ongoing military aid, according to a statement from the Moldovan Ministry of Defence.
The shipment is scheduled to arrive this week and is intended to enhance Moldova's military capabilities, Caliber.Az reports quoting Moldovan media.
These vehicles will also be utilized during upcoming international military exercises. Due to the current hot weather conditions, the vehicles will be transported at night to minimize heat impact and traffic disruptions, as specified by the Ministry's press service.
This military aid is part of a broader effort under a bilateral memorandum dating back to 1995 aimed at modernizing Moldova's armed forces. Moldova initially received 43 HMMWVs from the US in 2014.
The HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) is renowned for its rugged all-terrain capabilities, suitability for air transport and parachute operations, and its ability to support various weapon and equipment installations.
The vehicles are expected to significantly bolster Moldova's defence capabilities, allowing for enhanced mobility and operational readiness in various military scenarios.
