US to soon roll out new military aid package for Ukraine

25 July 2023 09:48

The US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller has said that Ukraine had everything it needs to conduct this counteroffensive.

"We have supplied them with an enormous amount of military equipment, as have our allies and partners both in Europe and around the world, and we will continue to do so.  You can expect further announcements of military assistance in the coming days.  We will continue to stand strong with NATO, as it conducts this counteroffensive," Miller said in a press briefing on July 24.

Since January 2021, the US has invested more than $43 billion in security assistance to demonstrate its enduring and steadfast commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. This includes more than $42.6 billion since Russia’s launched its premeditated, unprovoked, and brutal war against Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Moreover, to date, nearly 50 allies and partner countries have provided security assistance to Ukraine. Among their many contributions, Allies and partners have delivered 10 long-range Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS), 178 long-range artillery systems, nearly 100,000 rounds of long-range artillery ammunition, nearly 250,000 anti-tank munitions, 359 tanks, 629 armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), 8,214 short-range air defense missiles, and 88 lethal UAVs. Since February 24, Allies and partners worldwide have provided or committed over $13 billion in security assistance.

In the meantime, the EU is going to increase arms production for Ukraine as part of the Ammunition Production Support Act (ASAP), which aims to expedite the delivery of military aid to Ukraine and help EU member states replenish their arsenals.

RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the official journal of the EU, that The purpose of ASAP is to increase the production capacity of the European Union to solve the shortage of defense products, in particular, artillery ammunition, missiles and their components in the Ukrainian military. The EU plans provide funding of 500 million euros. The procedure for the coordination of the regulation between the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union ended on 20 July.
