Five injured in Ukrainian FPV drone blast in Russia’s Belgorod
An attack by a Ukrainian FPV (first-person view) drone injured five people in the town of Shebekino in Russia’s Belgorod Region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram.
"Ukrainian forces struck with an FPV drone, and five people were wounded in the resulting explosion. A woman sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to her forearm, while four members of the local self-defense unit suffered barotrauma. They all sought treatment at the Shebekino Central District Hospital," Gladkov wrote, per Caliber.Az.
The governor, who is on a working visit to Shebekino on July 13, described the situation in the town as tense, noting widespread public anxiety due to ongoing Ukrainian shelling.
"I drove through streets that have been under frequent attack in recent days. I visited a local church as the service was concluding and spoke with parishioners. I explained the measures we are taking and tried to answer all their questions," Gladkov added.
An FPV (First Person View) drone is a type of unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a camera that transmits live video to a pilot on the ground, typically via goggles or a monitor. This allows the pilot to control the drone as if they were onboard, providing an immersive flying experience.
When an FPV drone is modified to carry explosives and is flown directly into a target with the intent of detonating on impact, it becomes a kamikaze drone (also known as a loitering munition).
