Türkiye-Syria border crossings to operate 24/7 starting July 14
All border crossings between Türkiye and Syria will begin operating around the clock starting on July 14, according to Syria’s General Directorate of Maritime and Land Ports.
The decision aims to ease the return of Syrian nationals to their homeland and reduce congestion at checkpoints during peak travel hours, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The move is expected to streamline border traffic and facilitate smoother cross-border movement, particularly for Syrians returning from Türkiye.
Since the onset of the Syrian civil war, Türkiye has hosted millions of Syrian refugees, with many residing in border provinces like Hatay, Gaziantep, and Şanlıurfa. Recent developments, including Syria’s relative stabilisation under the Assad government and Türkiye’s push for voluntary repatriation, have increased the flow of returnees. In 2024, Türkiye reported that over 600,000 Syrians had voluntarily returned, a number expected to grow with improved border access.
