Venezuela rebukes Uruguayan president’s remarks, vows to "follow its own path"
Venezuela has dismissed comments made by Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi, insisting that the country will “follow its own path” without external interference.
In a statement, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto said Orsi “has no authority to intervene in the political affairs of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. Venezuela is a sovereign state with legitimate institutions and a people who decide their own fate, free from instruction or interference by other nations.”
The Venezuelan authorities also accused Orsi of deliberately ignoring what they describe as a key incident — the capture of President Nicolás Maduro from his residence in Caracas during a U.S. military operation, which reportedly resulted in civilian and military casualties.
The statement stressed that Maduro’s personal immunity as head of state was violated, constituting “a serious breach of international norms, including those protecting Orsi himself as President of Uruguay.”
Responding to Orsi’s comments, the Venezuelan foreign minister urged him to focus on domestic matters in Uruguay, respect international law, and uphold the principle of non-interference. The statement concluded: “True democracy begins with respect for the sovereignty of peoples.”

Earlier, Orsi had described Maduro’s removal as “good news, insofar as the authoritarian regime ceases to exist and democracy emerges.”
