Venezuela releases additional 104 political prisoners PHOTO
Venezuela freed another 104 political prisoners, the head of the country's leading human rights organisation, Foro Penal, Alfredo Romero, announced.
“We have confirmed the release of 104 political prisoners in Venezuela today [January 26] and continue to verify other releases. It would be ideal if the government published the list of those released,” Caliber.Az quotes Romero as saying on X.
#25Ene 8 p.m. A esta hora en el @ForoPenal hemos verificado 104 excarcelaciones de presos políticos en Venezuela el día de hoy. Seguimos verificando otras excarcelaciones. Sería ideal que el gobierno publique listas de excarcelaciones.

Foro Penal lawyer Gonzalo Himiob noted on X that the data will only be published with the consent of the former detainees.
Romero also shared a photo of one of the released prisoners, Foro Penal volunteer lawyer Kennedy Tejeda, who had been imprisoned at the Tocorón prison west of Caracas since August 2024.

According to human rights activists, since January 8, a total of 156 political prisoners have been released in Venezuela. The estimated total number of political prisoners in the country remains at 811, including more than 80 foreign nationals.
Earlier, on January 8, Venezuelan authorities announced the immediate release of political prisoners. The decision followed pressure from Washington after US forces captured President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and transported them to the United States for trial.
