Western Azerbaijan Community rejects Yerevan's claims of alleged abuses in Azerbaijani SSR
The Western Azerbaijan Community has condemned the baseless and slanderous statement by Armenia's Foreign Ministry of January 15, which alleged that unlawful actions were committed against Armenians in the Azerbaijani SSR.
The community noted in its commentary that the statement's tone resembles the rhetoric used by Armenia before the Second Karabakh War, according to Caliber.Az.
"First and foremost, it should be emphasized that ethnic cleansing was carried out by Armenia. The well-known statement made in 1993 by former President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, whose tenure coincided with the years of occupation of Azerbaijani territories, once again confirmed that ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis was an integral part of Armenia's state policy,”
The community also referenced Ter-Petrosyan's acknowledgement that the emigration of Armenians from the Azerbaijani SSR had been arranged by Armenia itself.
“All of this demonstrates that Yerevan was focused on eradicating the practice of peaceful coexistence between the two peoples and transforming Armenia into a mono-ethnic state. Instead of making slanderous and hate-filled statements, the Armenian government should put an end to racism, create conditions for the return of Western Azerbaijanis, and restore a multi-ethnic environment there," the commentary stated.
