White House: Let Ukrainians describe what they're doing
The White House could not answer the question of whether Ukraine has launched an expected counteroffensive to liberate Russian-occupied territories.
The announcement was made by Jake Sullivan, national security adviser to the US president, at a White House briefing on May 17.
“As you know, this is not like a D-Day landing on a beach. These types of military operations are more dynamic, more layered, and more multifaceted,” Caliber.Az quotes Sullivan as saying.
“I’ll let the Ukrainians characterize and describe what they’re doing. I would just say intense military activity is underway in parts of Ukraine, as we have seen recently from the fighting around Bakhmut,” he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously said that Ukraine still needs "a little more time" before it launches a counter-offensive. This is to allow most of the promised Western military aid to arrive in Ukraine.
