White House official: Trump not approved 45-day ceasefire with Iran
A senior White House official has downplayed reports regarding a potential 45-day ceasefire proposal for the ongoing conflict with Iran, urging caution in how such discussions are being portrayed in the media.
The official stated that while the proposal for a temporary ceasefire is part of ongoing discussions, it has not been finalised, and President Trump has yet to approve the idea, Caliber.Az reports via US media.
“It’s one of many things being discussed, and POTUS has not signed off on the idea,” the official said.
Earlier, it was reported that negotiators from the United States, Iran, and several regional countries are engaged in urgent talks to secure a 45-day ceasefire aimed at paving the way for a broader peace agreement, sources familiar with the discussions said. The indirect talks, involving intermediaries from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, are seen as a final chance to avoid significant escalation in the region.
US President Donald Trump has set a Tuesday deadline for Iran to agree to terms, expressing cautious optimism while warning that failure to reach a deal could lead to widespread military action. “There is a good chance, but if they don’t make a deal, I am blowing up everything over there,” Trump stated.
The ceasefire proposal involves a two-phase approach: a temporary truce followed by ongoing negotiations to address issues like Iran's nuclear program and regional security. Key sticking points include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile. However, Iranian officials remain hesitant to make concessions without strong guarantees of a lasting agreement.
