WHO warns of potential for new pandemic at any moment
The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) office in Russia, Batyr Berdyklychev, has warned that the world is at a high risk of a new pandemic emerging at any moment.
In an interview with Russian media, Berdyklychev emphasised that the global risk of dangerous pathogens evolving and mutating remains significant, Caliber.Az reports.
While many of these microorganisms are harmless to humans, they have the potential to trigger pandemics.
“We live in a world teeming with microorganisms that are constantly changing, mutating, and acquiring new properties… The risk of such pathogens emerging is very high,” said Berdyklychev.
He further stated that predicting when and where a new pandemic might occur is impossible. Instead, nations must be prepared to respond, both on a national and international level, in the event of an outbreak.
At the same time, Berdyklychev emphasised that one must simply be prepared for the emergence of such a pandemic "without any panic."
"This is exactly what the WHO is working on: both strengthening national health systems and preparing the global community for a joint response to such challenges," he noted.
