Zelenskyy defends strikes on Moscow while stressing need to end conflict

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has described strikes on Moscow as a “just response” to Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and communities, adding that the conflict must now come to an end.

“Last night, our long-range sanctions once again reached the Moscow region — for the second time this week, the Moscow oil refinery was hit. Targets in the Rostov region and in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine were also struck. This is a fully justified response to Russian attacks on our cities and communities, and another important result of our warriors’ work against facilities supporting Russia’s military machine.

I thank the Defence and Security Forces of Ukraine for their coordinated efforts — the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate, and our missile brigade for their precision.

In recent days, all our partners have noted the accuracy and effectiveness of our medium-range and long-range strikes. It is time for the war to end, and Russia must take the necessary steps in diplomacy,” the president wrote on Telegram.
