Zelenskyy explains why US peace plan reduced to 20 points
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that the Ukrainian delegation will present the United States with a new version of the peace plan, consisting of 20 points, from which provisions unacceptable to Kyiv were removed, UNIAN reports.
The president also noted that a compromise on the territorial issue “has not yet been reached.”
“Different plans exist, although the basis is the same. It was 28 points, now it’s 20. We aligned this direction, and points that were frankly anti-Ukrainian were removed. The Americans’ attitude is generally aimed at finding compromises. Of course, there are difficult issues regarding territory — a compromise has not yet been found,” Zelenskyy stressed.
According to him, Ukraine has no constitutional, international, or moral right to cede its territories.
Zelenskyy also emphasised the importance of security guarantees. “I want to stress again, and Mark Rutte agreed with me today, that the main answer to the question of security guarantees is the following: ‘If, after the end of the war, Russia were to start aggression again at some point, what will the partners be ready for? What can Ukraine rely on?’ This must be included in the response and at the heart of security guarantees for Ukraine,” he said.
The Ukrainian president added that constructive talks were held in London on December 8, including discussions with world leaders.
Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is preparing its own version of the peace plan together with European countries, which, he assured, would be ready by the evening of December 9 and subsequently sent to Washington.
