Zelenskyy reports fresh Russian strike on Chernobyl exclusion zone
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russian forces had once again struck the restricted area surrounding the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, according to a statement published on his Telegram channel.
“A Shahed UAV hit one of the buildings of the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility. This is an extremely critical infrastructure site. Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Energy, and all relevant services are already working to brief our partners on the situation. Russia deliberately targeted this nuclear infrastructure facility,” the Ukrainian leader added.
According to the Ukrainian president, radiation levels remain within normal limits, and emergency responders managed to extinguish the fire that broke out following the strike.
“Last night, the Russian Armed Forces also attacked other civilian facilities across 13 regions of our country. Overall, during the past week, Russia launched 88 missiles, more than 3,250 attack drones, and around 1,800 guided aerial bombs against Ukraine. Pressure on Russia must be increased,” Zelenskyy concluded.
