Zelenskyy signals readiness to normalize relations with Georgia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine is ready to normalise relations with Georgia on the basis of mutual respect and cooperation.
He made the statement in a post on his Telegram channel.
“Together with Andrii Sybiha, we updated our European foreign policy priorities for May–June. At the level of the team, we are maintaining an active dialogue with the new authorities of Hungary, and there are prospects for a constructive restart of relations. The Foreign Minister of Ukraine and other members of the government are preparing for a format of bilateral consultations with Hungary. I expect results.
We also discussed with the Foreign Minister work with European institutions to open clusters in the negotiation process on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union: Ukraine has taken the necessary steps, and it is important that there is a clear timetable for the processes.
Andrii Sybiha also reported on communication with the Foreign Minister of Georgia. We are striving to normalise relations and cooperation based on mutual respect and mutual strengthening, and we are ready to take steps towards this.
Separate tasks have been defined regarding negotiations on ending the Russian war and possible European representation in this process — these tasks are currently non-public. We expect Europe to be strong, and on our part we are doing everything to ensure that pan-European positions and interests are taken into account equally with Ukraine’s,” the Ukrainian leader said.
