Zelenskyy: Ukraine and Poland must stand together against Moscow

19 December 2025 18:07

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stressed the importance of strengthening relations between Ukraine and Poland, describing his official visit to Warsaw as a significant step toward deepening bilateral ties and regional security cooperation.

In a post on his Telegram channel, Zelenskyy thanked Polish President Karol Nawrocki for what he described as a constructive and substantive conversation. He said the visit marked a new stage in relations between the two countries, which he characterised not merely as neighbours, but as key pillars of security and freedom in Central and Eastern Europe.

“Ukrainian independence and Polish independence are the foundation that allows every nation in our part of Europe to live freely, without Moscow’s rule,” Zelenskyy wrote.

The Ukrainian president emphasised the importance of close cooperation and coordination in the field of security, expressing gratitude to Poland for its long-standing support of Ukraine since the restoration of its independence in 1991 and, in particular, since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. According to Zelenskyy, discussions during the visit covered both the ongoing war and diplomatic efforts, as well as concrete measures aimed at strengthening the shared security of the region.

Speaking later at a joint press conference with President Nawrocki in Warsaw, Zelenskyy underscored the strategic importance of unity between Ukraine and Poland in resisting Russian aggression. As reported by European Pravda, he acknowledged that relations between the two societies have at times faced difficulties, but stressed that political leadership must focus on policies that bring the two nations closer together.

“Without the independence of our state, Moscow will inevitably come here, further into Europe. Without our independence, Moscow will inevitably come for Poland. And therefore it is important that we exist. It is important that you exist. It is important that Ukraine and Poland exist, and it is important that we are together,” Zelenskyy said.

He also extended an invitation to President Nawrocki to visit Ukraine, noting that such a visit would be of great importance for further strengthening bilateral relations. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is defending not only itself, but Europe as a whole, and that this defence comes at the highest possible cost — the lives of its citizens.

“We are grateful to Poland for its support,” he added.

In addition, the Ukrainian leader called on politicians in both countries to exercise caution in their public statements so as not to undermine unity between the two nations. He warned that Russia seeks to exploit divisions and weaken the partnership between Ukrainians and Poles.

“We all need to be attentive and careful. Russia wants discord, wants to destroy the strong alliance of two nations. We will not allow them to do this,” Zelenskyy said.
