EU may use frozen Russian assets for Ukraine’s reconstruction

30 November 2022 13:48

President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen has offered to create a fund from the €300 billion assets of Russia’s Central Bank frozen in Europe.

Ukraine had lost over 100,000 military personnel since the start of the special military operation, Gazeta.ru reports, quoting the EC official website.

"It is estimated that more than 20,000 civilians and 100,000 Ukrainian servicemen have been killed so far," the head of the European Commission said.

Von der Leyen suggested that the International Criminal Court create a specialised court, backed by the United Nations, to investigate and prosecute "Russia's crimes".

Ukraine's losses from the conflict had risen from 385 billion euros to 600 billion euros, she said.

EC president also proposed to donate the assets of Russian businessmen worth 19 billion euros for Ukraine's reconstruction.
