Hackers breach Iran International TV channel, extract sensitive data
Iran-backed hacker group, identified as Hanzalah hacking group, has reportedly carried out a cyberattack on Iran International, a London-based television channel known for its critical stance on the Iranian government and support for regime change.
The attack disabled the channel’s entire digital infrastructure, including its servers and internal communications systems. The hackers allegedly extracted a significant amount of sensitive information, including internal communications between staff, personal data, financial documents, and files suggesting links to foreign entities, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The group behind the attack has announced plans to begin publishing the stolen data, warning that “the first surprise is on the way.”
Iran International is a Persian-language news network that broadcasts 24/7 from London and maintains a significant audience inside Iran, despite repeated efforts by Iranian authorities to block access through internet restrictions and satellite jamming. The Iranian government has designated the network as a terrorist organisation.
The channel has been the target of multiple threats and attacks in recent years. In 2023, a man was convicted under UK terrorism laws after surveilling the network’s premises. In 2024, Iran International presenter Pouria Zeraati, host of the “Last Word” program, was stabbed in London in what authorities described as a targeted assault.
