EU Commission president accused of providing inaccurate figures on Ukraine's army losses
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's statement on Ukraine's losses in the war against Russia should have referred not only to the dead, but also to the wounded military and civilians.
The remarks came online by the director of Political Communications of the European Commission, Dana Spinant, RBC-Ukraine reports.
“In her address, von der Leyen said that allegedly "more than 20,000 civilians and over 100,000 Ukrainian military personnel have died in Ukraine". However, her statements were later edited and published without mentioning Ukraine's losses,” Spinant said.
"Thanks to those who pointed out inaccuracies in the figures in a previous version of this video. The estimate used from external sources should have referred to casualties, that is, both dead and wounded, and should have shown Russia's brutality,” she remarked.
For the record, only the president, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces or the defence minister have the privilege to comment on Ukraine's war losses.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine's losses in the war were 10 times less than Russia's.
