The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) has said that 10,400 Russian people visited Japan in 2022, which is 11.5 times less than in pre-pandemic 2019 (120,000 people).
Some 3,831,900 foreigners visited Japan in 2022 which is eight times less than in 2019 (31 million people), the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) reported, citing statistics from the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO).
According to the organisation, most of people from South Korea, Taiwan and the US visited Japan. South Korea (1,012,700 people), Taiwan (331,100 people) and the US (323,500 people) are among the top three countries.
ATOR said that the flow of tourists from Russia to Japan decreased due to the restriction on the entry of tourists and the cessation of direct flights with the Russian Federation.
The association noted that the tourist flow from Russia began to grow at the end of the year. Some 1,600 Russians visited Japan in December 2022. ATOR added that there are no problems for Russian citizens to obtain a Japanese visa.
