Moldova, Romania to launch joint border control regime in April
Moldova and Romania will launch in April a joint control regime at the largest common border crossing point, Leuseni - Albita.
Moldovan Interior Minister Anna Revenco made the remarks speaking to the local TV channel RLIVE, TASS reports.
"The new regime for the most popular border crossing point will reduce waiting times. Negotiations on such a regime usually take years, but the Moldovan government accelerated the approval of the agreement with Romania. We are sure that our Romanian colleagues will also speed up the process so that this regime is already in force by the Easter holidays," Revenco said.
She noted that border guards and customs officers of the two countries have already agreed on a joint work scheme.
The minister also said that because of the increased workload at the border over the past year, the Moldovan government decided to implement joint regimes at other checkpoints and to speed up the construction of the new Leova - Bumbeta checkpoint.
