Poland to boost ammunition production

The Poland-based state and private enterprises engaged in the defence sector will increase the manufacture of ammunition for domestic needs and for Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki made the statement at a press conference, RBC-Ukraine reports.

“In the coming days, the Council of Ministers will adopt a special long-term program that will support the production of ammunition in different parts of our country. We want private and public companies to produce ammunition. Today we know that these munitions are in short supply throughout Europe, and I can say that it is no secret that they are in short supply throughout NATO,” Morawiecki said.

According to Morawiecki, Poland has joined the EU program for the joint purchase of ammunition for the Ukrainian army, which is the greatest need for our soldiers today.

“Therefore, as we agreed at the last European Council, we will supply these munitions, with funding coming from the EU budget,” the prime minister added.

Morawiecki also noted that the EU program for the transfer of a million shells to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by the end of the year is very ambitious.

“But I am convinced that after a very rapid increase in the production capacity of our defense industry, such volumes will not be too ambitious,” the prime minister said.
