Pakistan to continue to support Azerbaijan - president

Pakistani President Arif Alvi has said that his country will continue to support Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

He made the remarks in a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Independence Day to be celebrated on May 28, Caliber.Az reports, citing the presidential press service.

“Over the last 30 years, the fraternal bonds between our two countries have strengthened based on our deepening multi-sectoral cooperation, particularly in economy and trade, culture, education as well as defence. Pakistan proudly stood by Azerbaijan during testing times and will continue to offer its steadfast support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan,” he wrote.

He expressed confidence that Pakistan will continue to work with Azerbaijan further to expand bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two nations.

“I wish you good health and happiness, and I wish the brotherly Azerbaijani people steady progress and prosperity," Alvi wrote.

During the 44-day war with Armenia in 2020, Pakistan was among the first countries to voice political support for Azerbaijan. Pakistan also supports Azerbaijan in the restoration of the country's liberated territories.

In September 2021, the Azerbaijani, Turkish and Pakistani special forces conducted joint international drills in Baku, codenamed Three Brothers - 2021.

Under the drills plan, the special forces units carried out practical shootings using small arms and grenade launchers.

Furthermore, the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Pakistan signed the Baku Declaration on cooperation. The document was signed following the trilateral meeting held by speakers of the three countries’ parliaments on July 27, 2021.

Pakistan and Azerbaijan share a special political bond that transcends their geographical distance. It allows for collaboration in a variety of fields, particularly those related to the military and business.
